Hi Filmore, there are a lot of things to consider. lets talk about the 2004 Fatboy first, assuming it is in excellent condition and the price is fair the 2004 Fatboy is a great bike...your coming from a 1983 FX with a big twin shovelhead, the Fatboy has the Twin Cam 88B counterbalanced 1450cc motor. Before I bought my 2000 Heritage Softail"also with the TC88B" I was riding a 1982 FLH Electraglide and as much as I LOVED all my older Shovelheads there is absolutely no comparison to the ride, comfort and reliability I have now.
Now as far as a new bike is concerned, yes the 2007 line up does have a new motor the "TC96/96B" with a 6-speed cruise drive transmission. There is no better feeling in the world than buying a brand new HARLEY-DAVIDSON, I wouldn't worry about waiting the extra year if this was the year you are ready to buy a new bike, personally if it was my decision to make I would buy a brand new Heritage Deluxe.
let us know what you decided.
Thank you for trusting our opinion
